Present Game Questions
The Big Idea: Describe your learning topic for the game. What is the most important thing you want your players to learn?
My learning topic for my game, is about World History-Alexander the Great. I hadn't really thought about this idea. I was more into the dynasties and ancient civilizations, but this is what happened. I researched Alexander the Great because we had already read about him in class. At that second, I thought about all the things that I would have in my game if I did my game based on this topic. I didn't have many ideas, but as soon as I read about him, a bunch of ideas were presented. I read his history on how he got his horse, Bucephalus. Going to the next question, I want for players to learn more about his history. I, myself, didn't know the events that he had to go through to get his horse. Yeah, I want for players to learn of how the combination of Alexander and Bucephalus, came into play.
Research: What kind of research did you do? What did you learn about your topic?
Like I mentioned, we all had to do a Science/Historical topic. I thought about the Science topics, but no, I wasn't all that interested. On the contrary, there were many topics to do for History topics. When I chose Alexander the Great, for my topic, I began to research the events in his life. I wanted to do something simple, but interesting. That is when I found the topic of Bucephalus. I read on how Philip II of Macedon, was given Bucephalus by 13 talents, special metals. Nobody could ride him because he was aggressive, until Alexander the Great, offered to ride him. If he couldn't get him settled, he will owe those 13 talents to his father. Miraculously, he was able to ride him. It is said that it was destiny, that brought them together. Now, that was something that I didn't know of him and it was the kind of event that I wanted to include in my game by making it, the goal of the game.
Making Decisions: How did your ideas change as you worked on your game?
My ideas did change a bit, but that was because I just kind of,"winged it," at the beginning. I already had ideas for the game, but all I really did was to change the artwork. My idea remained the same, which was avoiding Philip, warriors, and rude remarks. Collecting horse gear for Bucephalus also remained the same.
Mastering Programming: What Game Ingredients and Help Center resources have been most useful to you so far, and why?
This is where I, right away, got started. Last year, I didn't do a good job, but the thing that helped me the most, this year, was actually reading instructions. I decided to do parallax scrolling, background music, splash screen, health bar, and immobilizing traps. The easy/medium game ingredients, were the easiest. I decided to try the Hard Game Ingredients, but I didn't have fun at all. I read the instructions over and over again, but it didn't quite work. This year, though, I got help from the Help Desk. They were a good resource because they fixed the problems and that's how my game actually got finished. If I would have to recommend any help, I would totally say the Help Desk because it helped me.
Overcoming Challenges: Which part of making the game was most difficult for you? How did you overcome this difficulty? What features are you most proud of in your game?
The most difficult part of my game was putting the Immobilizing Traps. Now, these were difficult since it was located in the Hard Game Ingredients. I seriously got frustrated because I tried everything. A week passed and nothing, I couldn't get it to work. I overcame this difficulty by getting help from the Help Desk. They got it fixed in 2 days! I was so excited because now that I had finished with this game ingredient, I could do more of them. Even though, it's a fairly simple game, I am overly proud of all the features of my game. I am proud of my artwork, the Splash Screen that is so much better than last year's, the working of the health and score, the moving objects, win/lose screens, even the background, which was Ancient Pella in Macedonia. Yeah, I am really proud of my game, Alexander the Great: Getting Bucephalus.

Paper Prototype
Write about making a paper prototype. What problems did it help you to solve with your game idea?
Making a paper prototype is pretty easy for me. Why? Well, first of all, because I am so used to this routine when it comes to creating games. Another thing is that if you think about it, it's all about putting your ideas in paper, which is really easy. It's just like a rough draft with lots of details... I don't know, it's kind of hard to explain because it all depends on the person when making a paper prototype and I don't know what words I can use to describe how easy it is to me. Just to let you know, making a paper prototype is the beginning of having fun in this class.
Like I said, coming up with my game topic, which is about Alexander the Great, was kind of hard. I've been used to politics, safe driving, and healthy living, so this is like a new experience for me. At first, I thought that making a game about Alexander was going to be hard. This is because Alexander was known for being a great leader and he had tons of events in his life, so how would I choose a good,"mission?" Easy. I began to do my research and I found lots of them. Then I read about Bucephalus and I thought that it would be fun using this life event of his. When it came to making the level for the paper prototype, it was sort of given to me. His life story about Bucephalus gave me an easy idea of how to make it into a game. At the same time, coming up with enemies and collectables, it was really breathtaking. We had this deadline and the thing with me is that, I like taking my time when it comes to drawing. Yeah, I had to hurry with my paper prototype, but in the end, it all paid off because I have my ideas in my mind, which is awesome because I have the option to change things in my game.
Paper Prototyping is really fun!

Plan Game Scene
Write about your vision for this game. What excites you the most?
My vision for this game, is the same as the other ones that I have created. I know that I have only done one Mobile Game, which was last year, but it's the same thing, only with a completely different topic. The other one was a huge success, even though that it was small and quick. I have the same expectations for this game: not only to get to finish it, but show the 100% effort by making this an educational game. It seems sort of, weird and complicated. This is only because I was used to creating games that were about the environment, politics, and healthy living. Now, I have the opportunity to choose any topic, either with Science or World History. In my case, I chose World History. In 8th grade, I sort of did this topic, but had to do with the Presidential Race. Now, I'm doing my topic in Alexander the Great. When I was reading through the many topics that I could have chose, the one that really did interest me was on Alexander. I was actually in between Julius Caesar and him, but then I sort of did brainstorming. I was thinking of how I will incorporate education with the game. Then just like that, Alexander was my choice. This is why I'm really looking forward to this topic and game.
I guess that I'm really excited, myself, because I get to program again with Flash. Yeah, I kind of admit that it will be hard because coding is sometimes is difficult. Although, I'm really looking forward to it, meaning I'm not scared. It sounds funny, but I have noticed that through out the years, I have always finished my games. Not only that, but they all work perfectly. I even got awards for some...
Then again, I am also excited by having others play it when it's finally competed. I just hope that I can help others remember what Alexander had to do, in some of his life events, to become a great man in ancient history!

Choose Learning Topic
Write a game quest:
You are Alexander the Great, I know, it is pretty cool. You are currently 12 years old. Why? This is when your adventures and life started. Just so you remember, Philonicus, the Thessalian, brought a horse, Bucephalus, to your king and father, Philip. He was offering to sell him for 13 talents, which was used by the Romans and the Greeks, meaning a former weight and unit of currency. Now you are seeing that no one is able to ride the horse because it's so vicious and aggressive. When your father is about to take him away, you stand up and say,"What an excellent horse do they lose for want of address and boldness to manage him!" All of the crowd is looking at you and no one thinks that you are able to ride it, so why even try? Now this is what you have to do: the crowd, and even your father, don't believe that you will be able to ride the horse, right? Are you going to listen to them? No, you will have to avoid all of them people to be able to win Bucephalus. When you are able to avoid all of them, you will win Bucephalus. Obviously, Bucephalus will be in your hands because it is destiny that him and you are together.
Now, that is one thing that you will have to accomplish, is there something else, Alexander? Well, your father, Philip, wants you to get a good education. Because you need the studies, Philip has announced Aristotle as one of your tutors. I mean, you might not be interested in philosophy, but that is one thing that Aristotle teaches. Not only that, but medicine, morals, religion, logic, and art. So, what do you need to do, Alexander? What do you need to do in order to have a good education? It's obvious that you will have to pay attention, but will you not get distracted? It's obvious that you like to know about combats, especially when you are 12-13 years old. To not disappoint your father and yourself, which is important, you will have to avoid distractions. Come on, you are Alexander the Great. Avoid at all costs thinking of something that is not studying. For example, your father has told you to not make the same mistakes as he did once. You will have to avoid women, swords, and other weapons. If you avoid these kind of distractions, not only will you make your father's/mother and Aristotle's heart, you will find inner peace in yourself because you have learned so much.
Well, anyways, you have had so many adventures in your life, that these missions are the beginning of your life...I wish you the best of luck, but remember, try really hard on following your destiny and doing the right thing.
Remember: YOU ARE ALEXANDER THE GREAT!

Learn to Design For Mobile
Main Question: What is the difference between a mobile game and a console game?
Well, the differences are kind of obvious. Both mobile and console games are fun to play with. A mobile game can be pretty hard to work with. For example, when playing Mario Bros. on the computer, it's a bit difficult to play with. I guess that for mobile games, it's much difficult. You have to make it more simple, with simple buttons and all that stuff because that way, you wont have any trouble playing with it. By that, I mean slowing or the controller is hard to play with. A console game is much different. For me, it's much easier with a console game because nowadays, people play those. More and more games are created, so I guess that makes them much easier to play with.
Mobile and console games can have their differences, but they are also much alike. With me, the only thing that matters is for you to have fun, and if it's an action-educational game, then it's much better. Really, if I had to pick between the two of them, I think that I would pick the console game. That's only because a mobile game can be a game that has been created for a console game, and that will only, maybe, bring difficulties while playing.

Hour of Code
I recognized Shakira, Barack Obama, and Ashton Kutcher.
That everybody should learn how to program, no matter where we come from or who we are, is what they encouraged us to do or learn.
Well, I think that it is important to learn how to program because it's something new and hard. You get to understand how games and things are programmed, so that way, you can at least think of studying in that kind of area. I guess that it's something fun too because you get to experience with the coding and you can even mess with it.
Like I said, if you learn from this right now, it will bring you more interest for you to study as your future career. Of course, this is just an option, but talking about this, you get to show more of your creativity and show more of you skills.

Add Hidden Objects
What was it like to add Actionscript to your objects? What kind of game action would you like to add next?
Well, I haven't really added any coding... This is because I'm still going to have changes in the background since it's really simple, as of right now. Well, I could technically use this background, but like I said, I like to be creative when for when it comes to drawing. Yeah, it's a good plan, but it's simple. That is the reason of why I haven't put any Actionscript. I will tell you though, that when I completely finish my background, the hidden objects will be buttons. I like working with buttons since they are easy to work with. Really, the objects will be the correct answer, so that's why I decided to make them into buttons instead of just using them as movie clips and just finding them. For the next time I work on this, I will finish my background quickly because in the end, the coding is what takes longer. I will do this type of coding for all hidden objects. As you can see, I'm still in the process of finishing my background and the start of coding my objects.

Draw Background 11-08-2013
What was it like to draw your background in Flash?
Well, it felt like old times...I mean, that is the thing that I like doing in Globaloria: to draw in Flash. Although I am not finished at all with all of my objects in my scene, they will be soon. What I did today was to draw my background. By that I mean that I just did the basic things: the sky, the sun, trees, the road, and the car. Your idea is correct! The road and the car are there because I will do a Safe Driving game. Like I said, I haven't finished with all of my objects because for that, I need more time and that is something that I lack all the time. So, if there is one thing that I shall improve is: time and get a really fast jump start with all of my work, especially when I plan to do and educational game. That's all I did for the day, which I need to do more...

Make a Paper Prototype
What problems did it help you to solve with your game idea?
I didn't have a clear idea of what my game will look like, but I know why... Usually, I like to keep my ideas in my mind, so that way I can then put them into Flash. It's really hard for me to put my ideas into a paper, especially when I'm doing a new topic. Anyways, the thing is that I begin drawing and working in Flash, even if my paper prototype is not completed. I don't think that it helps me any way, since it's just an idea. Plus, I end up changing the whole idea from the paper prototype, into a new one. Yeah, right now it's really complicated because this is a new topic that I am working with and I am not sure of what I am about to do. Like I said, with other topics, such as Healthy Living, it's easy to me because I can relate to the topic. With Safe Driving, though, I have a bunch of ideas, but it gets complicated when you decide of what IS that you are FINALLY going to work with.
Back to the question, I still need to solve some decision problems, but will assure you that I will come up with a great idea that will show the player on Safe Driving.

Write about your vision of the game. What excites you the most?
I'm still not sure about my background. It's easy when you think about it, but if you really want to make a creative, but educational game, then it might get a little complicated. Either I will make the background in the road like same Safe Driving games or make the game like a test. For example, if you are beginning to drive, then you must know all the rules in the road. The background doesn't really worry me because as soon as I come up with new ideas, I go fast. What really matters to me is how am I going to be able to put the code. Since I want for the player to learn basic rules of driving, it's really important to me that they know all the facts and soon, they will be reminded. The thing is that I want for the player to not just find objects because it's fairly too easy and what will they learn? No, I don't think that it will help. That's why I will be putting questions and the player must answer the question right by FINDING the RIGHT object.
This is my basic vision of the game that I will create, but I still need to do much more planning!

Choose Learning Topic- Safe Driving
Why do you like this topic for your Hidden Object Game?
Last year, I chose Healthy Living, so I thought to make another game with a different concept. Although, I must say that I'm not as excited with this topic, but that is just because I have more interest in Healthy Living. This year, is a new year, so I'm going to try a new idea!
Yes, this is also a great topic for a Hidden Object Game. More teens are suffering the consequences, so why not teach them of what is expected in the road? It's also a great way to learn more about this topic, since I'm in high school. I will be able to share my ideas and teachings with other kids my age. I can also, myself, learn more about Safe Driving, since I don't know all the rules completely and appropriately.
Those are my main reasons of why I chose this new topic and I hope I can succeed in making an educational, but also fun game to play!

Play to Learn
Reflect on what you learned by playing these games. What kind of ideas did you get for your own game?
First of all, this is not my first year designing games...I actually enjoy creating Hidden Object Games. Last year, I didn't have a whole lot time to do my Hidden Object Game because we had to do a Mobile Game. I don't know what my topic will be for this year, but I know for sure that I will try to make it a hidden one and educational again. Yeah, these games were great because they all have their own objective and their own learning goal. These games gave me new ideas for new games that I will create. For example, I can focus on safe driving or cleaning up the pollution. I don't have a whole lot to say, but this is because I don't have an idea. Although I do assure you that I will have another great idea!

Play To Learn
Game Title: Math Sports
What is the Learning goal/topic of the game: The learning goal of the game was to find the square root of the numbers that were given to you.
Was the game fun to play? Why or why not?: The game was actually fun to play. I really liked the graphics, they were so creative! It also explains in detail what you need to do. Some of the obstacles were really fast and that made you want to play the game more.
Did the game do a good job of teaching the topic, why or why not?: Yes, but at the same time no. I mean, you actually have to know the square roots. Anyways, I did like it!
Game Title: Mathlodon
What is the Learning goal/topic of the game: The topic of the game was Math. It was about solving hard problems that you can't possibly memorize.
Was the game fun to play? Why or why not?: I honestly didn't like it because it was too hard! Those were questions that I didn't know. I actually need to have a calculator or a piece of paper to solve them.
Did the game do a good job of teaching the topic, why or why not? No, it didn't do a good job on teaching. Like I said, those problems got harder the more you played.
Game Title: Math Blocks
What is the Learning goal/topic of the game: The topic was about Math too. It was about adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
Was the game fun to play? Why or why not?: The game was fun to play. You had to hurry because you had a tetris piece and you had to put it the right way.
Did the game do a good job of teaching the topic, why or why not?: I actually think it did because as you were reading the problem, you tried to hurry as much as possible to solve it. A timed game can be an excellent way to learn it, forcefully.

Where to Get Help
How might your classmates or friends help you with your projects? How will you help your classmates with their projects?
Well, we all can get excellent help from the wiki page, especially in the Help button. There's a lot of cool help that will be useful for you during projects in Globaloria. The Game Ingredients is a great example where you have tips when making a project in Flash. When you need Blogging Help, there are excellent ways where you can figure complicated stuff...

Kid's Science Challenge
The title of the game was Pollution Blasters-Water Quality
Well, I learned the basic thing: prevent pollution.
Well, I think that the creators might have put more facts about pollution. Instead of just having them during the game, it was better to have an About Scene, so that way you couldn't have been distracted during the game.
I guess that it was entertaining because the harmful substances would get faster, so you had to shoot better and faster. Yeah, I ended up trying to do a level 3 to 4 times because it was really fast.

Recycling Stuff
Some of the examples that I saw was aluminum. Sodas are made of aluminum and they can be reused again by making others like that. Plastic can also be recycled. They cut, so then it can be reused for carpets and toys. Easy ways to start recycling is for example, instead of just throwing away a plastic water bottle, you can just reuse it again. Recycle plastic bags, so that you can reuse them also. Of course, sometimes it is very convenient to bring a lunch box with you, but you can start by learning on HOW to recycle and REUSE. At EA Prep for example, most students bring their own water bottles, sodas (drinks) to school. Well, they end up in the trash can, but it would be more convenient if we had like a recyclable place where students can dump them in. For electronics that don't work anymore, it is also very convenient to bring them since most of them are plastic. In conclusion, recycling is just a valuable way to save the environment and us.

Do you think you can change your community?
I am not sure... I can cooperate with a group of people, but me, alone? I guess never. I think that I would stand up for myself for when it comes to something serious, like trash. I would probably talk about how it can affect the environment primarily. Since I am one of those people that don't like to share my feelings with other people, rather my friends, it makes it difficult because, how am I going to change the community if I can't be certain about myself? In conclusion, I think that changing my community will be hard because of me. It's been me all the time and I can't change it if I can't change myself that will cause a positive impact on myself.
Tech Trash
What is tech trash?
Tech trash is is a discarded area of electronic devices.
How does the trash negatively affect the environment?
CRT's have a high lead content and can be environmentally hazardous if not recycled properly. They could seep into groundwater and rivers, contaminating the water supply.
What does the article explain about people looking for solutions to tech trash?
Barbara Kyle said that people can donate electronics, but function well, so that way charities would be able to use them.
What can you do to help keep tech trash from polluting our community?
You can maybe call people that can properly dispose the trash, so that way both you and the environment, can be well satisfied.

School Year
This school year has been so so. Last year, we had amazing teachers, not that I'm saying that this school year's teachers are bad. No. I mean, I really miss in particular, Ms. Milner and Mr. Cunningham. I actually like most of the teachers like Ms. Vidal, Mr. Marino, Ms. Adame, etc. I also like the lunch better. Yeah, it didn't quite change, but the food is much more tasty. One concern, though: last year, I was in advanced Globaloria. This year, however, I am in the beginners Globaloria. I really got annoyed and mad because I took Globaloria for 4 years already, so basically I'm screwed because I have to take it to be able to get involved with stuff. I also like the way that I have gotten closer to people that I didn't think I would. The idea of having classes with others, it's just an opportunity to get to know more people. At the same time, you can form trustworthy and friendship. That's all I have to say about today's year...I also feel a lot older this year. It makes me feel like I am actually becoming an adult. I am starting to really think about college, my future, and how I'm gonna miss some of these crazy weirdos from EAPrep when I'm gone. (I'm crying now because I'm thinking about all this and it's making me sad)
